The Numbers Speak for Themselves...

According to the weekly Chelsea Now, "In a comprehensive survey on the subject released last week, the New York City Coalition Against Hunger found that across the five boroughs, emergency food programs are serving an average of 28 percent more people than a year ago."

The Food Bank For New York City has released its figures for 2007, reporting that "the number of NYC residents who experienced difficulty affording needed food throughout the year has steadily increased every year, from 2 million in 2003 to 3.1 million in 2007 — a 55 percent increase. Those who would not be able to afford needed food immediately after the loss of their household income has increased from approximately 1.3 million in 2003 to approximately 1.6 million in 2007 — a 23 percent increase."

Since those figures are nearly one year old, the situation has surely gotten worse. By attending Get Canned, you are helping us to address this deficit. Thanks for doing your part to support your fellow New Yorkers in need!
